Nursing Supervisor *Northgate*

GENERAL SUMMARY

The Nursing Supervisor is responsible for clinical and administrative supervision of Nursing Services organization-wide. This team member is responsible for program development, contract adherence, and assisting with budgeting.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for the overall management and administration of the program, including assisting with budget and program development.
  • Hire, train and supervise licensed nursing team members.  Develop and maintain a nursing team able to provide effective medical treatment to clients in program.
  • Partners with external nursing agencies, coordinates and supervises work of licensed organization nurses.
  • Trains clinical mental health team members in areas of medication assistance and orientation.
  • Provide ongoing clinical and administrative supervision to nursing team members.  Monitor and evaluate their performance.
  • Ensure delivery of quality clinical work in various programs.  Oversee nursing treatment planning to insure services result in the accomplishment of identified outcomes for clients receiving medications.
  • Ensure quality of care of all nursing sites and medication room setups.
  • Provide clinical and administrative oversight to all nursing assessments and medical treatment plans.
  • Ensure appropriate and timely disposition of all clients appropriate for outpatient level of care.
  • Develop an on-call system for nursing team members.
  • Maintain responsibility for timely completion of paperwork and adherence to and compliance with organization and WAC, DSHS, DOH, County, HCS and contract behavioral health guidelines.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative working agreements with other agencies and systems, in providing nursing care.
  • Work closely with pharmacies providing services to clients.
  • Oversee all nursing services organization-wide; provide supervision, training, consultation to nursing team members.
  • Manage infection control and medication services.
  • Provide direct services and respond to crises as necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Understand recovery concepts in behavioral health.
  • Apply recovery concepts, as appropriate to my work at Sound.
  • Synthesize and demonstrate recovery concepts in my work at Sound.

KEY WORK RELATIONSHIPS

Establishes and maintains positive, ethical, and professional working relationships with community and government agencies, other professionals and family members/significant others of clients. Relates to a wide variety of people including members of ethnic and sexual minority populations, and is respectful of individual and cultural differences.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Directly supervises team member's in program. 
  • Clinical supervision, interviewing, hiring, and training team members.
  • Planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining team members; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS

  • Knowledge of nurse practice laws.
  • Ability to make independent medical decisions.
  • Ability to initiate emergency medical treatment.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely (orally and in writing) issues related to the department, and to organize one's supervisory and consultant support when needed. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of psychotropic medications. 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • RN with 5 years experience in direct service and supervision.
  • BSN preferred.
  • Must have knowledge and training in designated program area, supervision and administration.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • A valid Washington State RN license required.
  • Must have a valid Washington State driver's license with insurable driving record. 
  • Must pass a criminal background check.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the team members is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.  The team members frequently is required to stand and sit.  The team members is occasionally required to walk. The team members must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds or more with assistance.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
