Parent Peer/Partner - AA Level *Tukwila*

GENERAL SUMMARY 

The Wraparound with Intensive Services (WISe) Parent Peer works as part of a service delivery team and provides advocacy and support to caregivers of youth with significant behavioral health needs and other complex issues.  Promotes development of healthy youth and family functioning, skill building, empowerment, and wellness.  Services must be delivered in accordance with State Wraparound fidelity standards. Educate and assist parents/caregivers in navigating child serving systems such as special education, juvenile justice, DDA, child welfare, and others.  Provide referrals and linkages that support the youth and family's identified needs, attend meetings in support of families, attend local training and events to connect with other systems and enhance understanding of best practices.  Actively participate in supervision, staff meetings and consultation.  Be able to travel throughout King County to provide services at times and locations convenient to families.  The Parent Partner will utilize a strengths based and holistic perspective, and understand, support, and accommodate the diverse perspectives of families served.  The Parent Peer must have had their own successful personal experience as a parent of caregiver of a youth with behavioral health needs.  Must be able to promote hope and instill strength to caregivers by sharing appropriate personal successes. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES

  • Assist in developing and implementing the recovery plan, including identifying life goals and the steps needed to achieve them.
  • Identify services and activities that promote recovery and resilience.
  • Support clients and their families in making their own choices and taking responsibility for their own recovery.
  • Assist clients in building self-advocacy skills.
  • Assist clients with navigating the mental health and other systems.
  • Assist clients in developing coping skills.
  • Assist clients in building and maintaining community living skills and accessing community resources.
  • Assist clients with finding and retaining employment, education, and volunteer work.
  • Assist clients with finding other meaningful activities that promote a sense of purpose, structure, and inclusion in the community.
  • Assist clients to identify strengths, recognize successes, and build hope.
  • Assist in reducing the sense of isolation and helplessness that clients and families often feel. 
  • Articulate their own recovery and resilience stories in ways that are relevant to the obstacles faced by clients of mental health services. 
  • Utilize recovery tools and resources in the delivery of services. 
  • Facilitation of classes and individual plan development.

Establishes and maintains positive, ethical, and professional working relationships with all team members, clients, vendors, and other professionals.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma, GED or actively pursuing, required
  • Related experience, preferred.
  • AA degree, computer proficiency preferred.
  • A paraprofessional who is a client of health services (or a parent of a child receiving health services) who receives training and supervision by a mental health professional, and provides support to peers all according to the King County Standards for Peer Support Services.

  • Articulate their own recovery and resilience stories in ways that are relevant to the obstacles faced by clients of mental health services.
  • Relate to others in a professional manner, respectful of individual and cultural differences.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES & REGISTRATIONS

  • Must pass a criminal background check. 
  • Must have WA state driver's license and insurable driving record. 
  • Prefer WA State licensure and/or WAC 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

To successfully perform the essential duties of this position, an individual must be able to sit at a desk for six or more hours a day, and use office equipment, including phones and computer keyboards, for six or more hours per day. Individuals must be able to engage vendors, team members, clients and others over the phone and in-person by voice. Regular attendance is an essential function of the position.
